Project
Typography students created a multi page book layout about design duo, Nancy Skolos and Thomas Wedell. In March of 2017, Skolos and Wedell were awarded the AIGA medal for advancements in design, and Susan Merritt authored a biography detailing their lives and design process together. This book design brings color and unique design to that article.
Process
I first sketched all of the page layouts and then laid them out in Indesign using grayscale. I took inspiration from the design and colors of a poster by Skolos and Wedell and used those for the color theme of the book. The theme was carried throughout the book, and was instrumental in driving the design and details of the layout.
Result
I constructed six spreads of 12 pages including a cover, back, copyright page, table of context, and the six pages of the article. I then created several mockups of what the book layouts would look like all together. Two spreads are shown below, with all of the spreads in a mockup shown above.
