Project
Students were asked to create a "passion guide", or an app that allows users to find locations for a particular interest. I created Tide Guide,  an app that provides maps and information about local tidepools and the organisms that live there. I chose cheerful, illustrative graphics to make the app engaging and accessible for all ages and previous tidepool knowledge.
Research
I wanted to use a rustic, hand painted style to mimic beach signs and field illustrations. I used color studies of water, sand, and rocks when I digitally painted all of the backgrounds for the app.
Process
I mapped out the steps that I wanted for the guide and how it flowed, and then translated that to frames in Figma. I created digital paintings for the backgrounds of each of the frames in order to create and approachable and joyful application.
Result
I created a full prototype on figma that allows a user to navigate from the home menu, to a map and list of local tide pools or to a list with pictures and information for common tidepool residents. Additionally, users can bookmark and rate the pools they visit, or save critter pages to identify later.
