Project
Students were asked to make a poster, meme, and app for a social campaign of our choice. I chose to focus on a body positive campaign because I personally care about the topic and think that all people deserve to feel good in their skin. Women are especially targeted by advertising to make them feel bad about themselves in order to by more things, so this campaign focuses on women's bodies honoringnand the natural variation that exists in size and shape across the population.
Research
I wanted to honor plus size bodies like mine while referencing soft, sweet, organic shapes like fruit to show roundness in a positive way. I draw a lot of plus sized in my own illustration but below are some images types similar to the ones that inspire me.
Process
I went through many ideas of campaign and how to depict the topic in symbolism. I started originally with a flower shape and then realized it wasn't working, so I switched to a strawberry shape and adjusted the color palette to match the energy that I wanted the poster to have.
Result
I am really happy with how the poster and the other aspect of the deliverables turned out. The process of refining an image to make it as simple as possible and readable at small sizes was very valuable, and I learned a lot. I'm also very please with how the hand-drawn font compliments the figure, and I think overall the poster, app, and memes speak to the intended audience well.
